Leipzig University, in Leipzig in the Free State of Saxony, Germany, founded in 1409, is one of the world's oldest universities and the second-oldest university (rank only second to Heidelberg University) in Germany. And in 1953 for Karl Marx Year the university was renamed by its government the Karl Marx University, Leipzig after Karl Marx. As of 2017, there are 18 schoolmates or faculties Nobel laureates in this university.

The University Hospital Leipzig was built in 1415, and it is one of the just two maximum care hospitals in Saxony.
