From June 14 to 20, Dr. Hartmut Stinus, former President of the German Society for Foot and Ankle Surgery (GFFC), Chief Medical Officer of the German delegation at the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympics, and Senior Consultant of Foot and Ankle Surgery at the University Medical Center G?ttingen, Germany, was invited to visit Foshan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine as an International Visiting Professor. During the five-day academic exchange, Dr. Stinus was actively involved in a wide range of activities, including outpatient consultations, ward rounds, case discussions, surgical guidance, public lectures, and departmental management training, engaging in in-depth, comprehensive interactions with the hospital’s foot and ankle surgery team. This visit represents an important step in the department’s efforts to expand international collaboration and holds significant value for its ongoing development and future growth. At the welcoming ceremony, JIANG Kaiping, the Party Secretary of Foshan Hospital of TCM, delivered a welcome speech, and Prof. ZHU Yongzhan, Director of the Foot and Ankle Surgery Department, led his team in warmly greeting Dr. Stinus. Doctor BAI Wenbo from the Foot and Ankle Surgery Department presented an overview of the department’s development and achievements. Dr. Stinus fully acknowledged the department’s progress in recent years and expressed his anticipation of deepening academic exchanges through this collaboration. As a renowned expert in the field of foot and ankle surgery in Germany, Dr. Stinus possesses extensive practical experience. He is also the fourth-generation head of the Stinus Orthop?die, which boasts a 120-year history and operates 12 branches across Germany. The company has long specialized in the design of foot orthotics and rehab products and holds substantial influence within the German foot and ankle medical community. Throughout the academic exchange at Foshan Hospital of TCM, Dr. Stinus shared advanced concepts in German foot and ankle surgery community, drawing upon his rich clinical experience. He provided valuable insights on diagnosis, rehabilitation, and the application of orthopedic footwear. In particular, Dr. Stinus’s guidance on complex foot and ankle deformities, sports injuries, and individualized treatment approaches offered significant practical reference for the team. During the surgical guidance, Dr. Stinus emphasized precision and safety in clinical procedures. He meticulously guided the foot and ankle surgery team through critical steps and collaborated seamlessly with the team. When discussing challenging cases, Dr. Stinus conducted multi-faceted analyses and provided scientifically sound and rigorous treatment recommendations, which broadened the team’s clinical perspectives and stimulated in-depth clinical thinking. Dr. Stinus’s visit not only brought valuable practical experience as a representative of German colleagues to the Foot and Ankle Surgery Department of Foshan Hospital of TCM, but also provided invaluable support for the department’s future international collaborations and academic advancement. Through this academic exchange, the hospital’s foot and ankle surgery team gained fresh inspiration in diagnostic concepts, academic perspectives, and professional expertise.
