On November 15, a delegation of German experts, including Prof. Gernot Marx, Head of Surgical Intensive Care Medicine and Intermediate Care at University Hospital RWTH Aachen and Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists; Prof. Riccardo Giunta, Director of Hand, Plastic, and Aesthetic Surgery at University Hospital of Munich and President of the European Society of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery; and Prof. Mathias B?hr, Director of Neurology at University Medical Center G?ttingen and Fellow of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, visited Xiangya Hospital of Central South University for an exchange program. ZHANG Xin, Secretary of the Party Committee of the hospital’s; LIU Weidong, Director of General Surgery Dept.; TANG Juyu, Director of Orthopedics Dept.; LI Jing, Deputy Director of Neurology Dept.; SONG Zongbin and HU Jiang from the Department of Anesthesiology attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by LIU Xing, Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office.

ZHANG Xin, Secretary of the Party Committee expressed hopes that this exchange would enhance mutual understanding and lay the foundation for deeper collaboration among related hospitals. He also expressed Xiangya Hospital of Central South University's eagerness to establish more connections with European universities and medical institutions.

Director LIU Xing provided an overview of Xiangya Hospital of Central South University to the visiting professors.

The German experts showed great interest in the development of China's healthcare system and raised questions regarding referral processes within the medical system, the organization of specialties and sub-specialties, and the logical allocation of medical resources. Experts from the Chinese hospital provided detailed answers, helping the German guests gain a clearer understanding of the similarities and differences between the healthcare systems in China and Germany. Discussions on topics such as tele-medicine and hierarchical diagnosis sparked exciting ideas, with both sides expressing hope for future collaboration. After the meeting, the German experts were visited to the Departments of Orthopedics, Neurology, and Anesthesiology, and had corresponding academic discussions with the medical staff of each department.

During the visit, accompanied by colleagues from the hospital's International Cooperation and Exchange Office, the German experts also toured the Red Building Statue Square and the Historical Cultural Corridor in the hospital. They expressed their appreciation and touches to the Red Building bearing witness to the centuries-old history of Xiangya Hospital.
