Brief Introduction:

Prof. Dr. Carsten Perka completed his medical education at Charité – Humboldt University Berlin in 1991. He obtained his doctorate and habilitation at Charité – University Medicine Berlin under the supervision of Prof. H. Zippel. Since 2003, he is a Deputy Director of the Center for Musculoskeletal Surgery and Chairman of the Orthopaedic Department, Charité – University Medicine Berlin. Besides, Carsten Perka is also a professor in arthroplasty and regenerative medicine since 2006 and professor of orthopedics since 2010.

Prof. Dr. Perka is a renowned scientist with various research interests. One of the research fields of Prof. Carsten Perka has been the design of new revision implants for bone defect reconstruction in the acetabulum as well as primary implants for an optimized reconstruction of knee kinematics after total knee arthroplasty. Another focus of his work for more than a decade has been the development and evaluation of different joint preserving and replacing operational techniques for joint replacement, especially the revision arthroplasty of the hip and knee joint. In particular, the main emphasis has been on minimal invasive and navigated hip replacement. He has been also investigating the maintenance and differentiation of cells, particularly of periosteal and mesenchyme stem cells in clinical practice and in the formation of cartilage and bone tissue with and without the use of matrices in vitro and in vivo.

Carsten Perka is a Chairman and a Member of the Board of Trustees of PRO-IMPLANT Foundation since its establishment in 2013. Since October 2003, he has been assigned as the Chairman of the Orthopedics Department, Musculoskeletal Surgery Charité – University Medicine Berlin.
